Life as a New York Associate

About 4000 miles away from our global HQ in London, one of the most exciting developments in Concilium’s journey is taking place.

Our office in New York, having opened officially in Summer 2018, has been growing considerably since it’s inception. Aside from the colleagues who relocated from London to setup our first American office, we’ve been joined by some exceptional Associate Consultants.

We have spoken with Yana Morar and Zach Zandbergen, who both joined the team in NYC earlier this year, to learn about their experiences as they make Concilium Search history as our first New York Associates.

It’s great to have you onboard – what initially attracted you to Concilium?

Yana: I joined Concilium Search because of the real possibility to have an impact on people’s lives and help the companies we work with to fulfill their potential. I have always been very interested in discovering people’s talents, and here I have the chance to match skills and experiences with the right opportunities.

Zach: After getting my masters in London, I researched companies that had a connection back to the UK. I stumbled across Concilium and was immediately excited. Upon doing a bit more research, I learned that Concilium lined up well with what I was looking for: a meritocracy, a start-up energy, and a family-like atmosphere.

After the assessment day, and meeting all the guys in the NY Office, it was game over and I knew I had to join the team.

How has your experience been so far?

Yana: My experience at Concilium so far has been incredible. I am working with amazing people that have welcomed me into the family and are pushing me to become better every single day. I joined Concilium not that long ago, but despite being a newer member of the team I feel like I have been here for several years – in a good way! We work in an extremely fast paced environment, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. What has excited me the most is working with best-in-class colleagues and candidates and being able to learn from them every day.

Zach: It’s been great – tiring, but great! I feel like I’ve learned something new every single day, about myself and about the industry as a whole. I feel challenged in new and exciting ways everyday as well, and have enjoyed finding solutions to problems and helping the companies we partner with.

We’ve had a lot of growth happen since you both joined the team, but what are you most excited about in the future?

Yana: I am currently working within the Life Sciences industry and more and more I am learning of the complexities and timing involved with drug discovery and development processes.

It might take many years and billions of dollars of investment before a drug is commercialized and is able to help patients. What excites me the most about being in Concilium’s Life Science team is seeing our clients discover, develop and bring a new drug to market, and learn about the impact that new drug will have on people’s lives. It’s the best feeling in the world knowing that you played a small part in that process and helped a company achieve success and save even one patient’s life.

Zach: I’m excited by the growth opportunities for us working within the medical device industry at the moment, particularly within the MedTech space.

I’m also excited by the products that are being developed. From fully artificial hearts to robots that circumnavigate the body, there is so much that sounds like it’s out of a sci-fi novel – but it’s all happening presently and we’re looking forward to working with more companies in the space.

Thanks for sharing your experience so far. What advice would you give to future Associate Consultants joining the team?

Yana: My advice for future consultants is to be open minded and be willing to grow every single day. This is an ongoing learning process and becoming an expert in the field will make you a better consultant.

At the same time, it is important to enjoy the process and have a lot of fun while doing it!

Zach: Put in the leg work, be patient, and trust. You reap what you sew at Concilium, and the harvest bears very rewarding and exciting fruit down the road if you put your nose to the grindstone. Especially when you’re surrounded by the best of the best, as I am here in NY.

Concilium Search’s US office is currently expanding and looking for new Associate Consultants to join the team. Please feel free to reach out if you think you have what it takes to be successful in a fast-paced startup environment and would like to learn more.
